The “Overlooking the Wye” Project
This article was uploaded by Nicholas Cleak at 22:38 07 March 2009
A three year scheme to tidy up and renovate the attractions of the Wye Valley walk started last Autumn (2008) . The whole project from Symonds Yat to Chepstow will cost £3 million ,
£2 million coming from the Heritage Lottery Fund
This includes the area from the Chepstow Castle through Piercefield to the Eagles Nest above St Arvans which will be renovated, and already work has improved the walk with dead and fallen trees being removed .
The money being spent will indicate the improvements to be expected :
The Alcove £31000
Lover’s Leap £27000
Eagle’s Nest £24000
Giant’s Cave £21000
The Platform £14000
The Grotto £11000
General tidying , tree felling work etc £46000
The Piercefield Total is £175000
This work should bring more people to the walks , although it’s hardly forgotten , you always pass a few people along there if you walk a couple of miles along ..
So with the Piercefield walks being renovated , that just leaves the Grand House and other buildings , let’s hope they too will be restored in the coming years …
